This is my second attempt at a blog. I've noticed a resistance to have anything AGW related in the main blog, and that's fine. So to avoid further friction, this is a place to post things about AGW that you wouldn't want to annoy anyone with in the main blog. Enjoy or not, as you wish. If you don't want to hear about AGW, then don't visit. This blog will attempt to comply with every aspect of the "Dewey self moderation program policies" imposed earlier last year.

My opinions on AGW will become apparent as comment get posted and discussed. At some later time I may begin to populate the blog here with some links or graphics if I think they are relevant.

Post anything you like as long as you can back it up with reality, not emotion. This topic does get emotional for some as the entire subject is 'faith based'. ...and you can't alter a persons 'beliefs' or 'faith'. If a child believes in the tooth fairy, then the tooth fairy must exist: for that child.

Personal insults are unnecessary in a technical discussion, they won't be tolerated unless they are humorous enough to be justified as entertainment. Shouting someone down is just a pathetic tactic used by those who can't handle FACTS. And remember that those who can't handle the truth are most easily identified as those who try to silence the ones speaking it.

Play nice everyone!!!

Many of the more extreme, but honest folks on both side of this aisle simply cannot be convinced of anything outside of their existing belief. I say honest folks to include only those that have the ability to put aside any ulterior agenda or political outlook polluting their potential for objective thinking.

These people staunchly stick with their beliefs until they are shown that they may not know all there is to know on the subject matter. So long as they think they know the subject well, whether learned from Bill Nye or a Senator or a former vice president, they may as well be deaf, dumb, and blind. (Which means they can vote and drive as well as most.)

It used to be that volcanoes were blamed for increased heating. However, I recently read that volcanoes are 'masking' the global warming by causing a cooling trend. Further proof that the true believers will say whatever is convenient for them at the time.

Coal dust is a particulate that can help cool the atmosphere. Perhaps we should start burning more coal through unfiltered stacks, to help combat global warming. China and India are burning as much as they can get their hands on.

Yes again. (hands another cookie) When dealing with 'faith' and personal 'beliefs' (just like any religion) no amount of opposing facts can change a persons opinion. When their mind is made up, they shut the door to reason. ...and often won't even listen to dissension.

The Technical mind remains open to discussion and evaluation of alternate theories.

Ah ha, but what is the net effect of coal dust once it settles on the surface and absorbs more sunlight than that surface would have otherwise? Is it still a "can help cool" substance? Or, do our lowest extents of sea ice result from black carbon particulate changing the reflectivity, or albedo, enough to cause an effect?

    Here, Landfall, grab a half:

So again; it does (or can do) both. How convenient.

....and of course Volcanoes never belch out ash or dust that could land on ice and potentially alter the radiant absorption rates. No, they wouldn't dare...

I blame the coal fired steam locomotives.

Good idea barkeep. A go to place to vent about AGW one way or the other.
I don't think either side is sure.
In the meantime I like the humor in it.
Wake me up when they find the hot water pools in the oceans or whatever the theory of the year is.
While CO2 goes to 400...and beyond...I'll be here as long as I can hold out. The cookies will help.

    F'ing Hilarious!! I love it.

Feel free to post any of that kind of thing anytime. No need to 'resist' as you say.

Cos said he'd come here for the humor; so we must provide. Give the people what they want. I love "The Fail Boat".

    Thanks for posting!

Remember that line above about "those that can't handle the truth try to silence those who speak it" ?

Well here's a link to a story that proves just who can't handle the truth, and exactly who's speaking it.

Just think about all that money wasted on GW. Think about if it had been used to actually clean the planet. You know....Things like nutrient and sediment run off, hazardous waste, restoring estuaries and sea grass, etc. The World would be a much better place. Fix actual problems that we know how to fix. What a concept.

    Thanks Bart :O)

I agree completely! ..but it's not just AGW, the Fed-gov finds ways to waste money on all sorts of useless things. And some aren't just useless, they are actually detriments. In those cases it would actually be better to burn the money, than use it to cause problems.

An example you ask? Ethanol subsidies; they just ruin engines, and drive up the price of food corn in poorer nations.

Or just do things the Republican way and Filibuster or have ANOTHER useless vote to ban Obamacare. You know, so you at least look like you're doing something.

With all the extensions and exemptions Obama himself has 'granted', Obamacare is effectively gone. The RINOs have their own problems, and the TEA party ain't one of them.
