I love the Masters, adore it , the peaceful play ,the beautiful scenery and the single mindedness it takes to win it !

The competition has excellent competitors lots of young Americans and old wiley ones like Woods Mickelson and Watson (Bubba) A! The european contingent is on a crest of a wave at the moment with Rory McIlroy leading the Charge ! But it would be foolish to discount the Aussies of Scott and Day or the South Africans of Els, Swartzel and Oosehausen !

Current Champion Bubba Watson

Masters weather looks to miss the severe event that is involving much of the US

I think this is the correct Radar

Other Sports this weekend include

Moto GP
My Bikes are in Austin VR46 won last time wonder who I am hoping wins again

F1

The China Race is on this weekend will Lewis win again or will Vettel in a Ferrari Mount a chalenge

Nascar
Nascar is in Texas this weekend too , Saturday
The very Popular Harvick(Keysie likes him) is heading up the leaderboard !

couple of thoughts of mine !

Speith and Blubba (sorry) are very good picks ... Reed is a determined young man and you can never discount Leftly .

    1) a South African is due, they win a master every few years ...

    2) If Jason Day does not win a major this year he will never win and he has been in the top 6 at Augusta consistently .

3 ) Shane Lowry ~ Is going to win big this year , dont know if its a masters but something !

4 )Paul Casey is in stunning form since he dumped the european tour and concentrated on US tour .

    5) Never discount a german .. Martin Kaymer ..

    6) also remember the last big trophy of last year and this is the first time most of those will be on the same course ....
I personally doubt Rors will win this tournament ever ... because of what happened in 2011 ! Woods can hardly walk .

My bets are on ... Day ,Garcia (no reason just cos I like him ) Kaymer and outsider Lowry .

Indy cars race in NOLA this weekend. This is a first for this track, and we're all hoping it works out. Unfortunately the rain will probably interfere quite a bit. Oh well, there's always next year.

I think Atmo has had a few Mazda events at this facility. Nice new track really.

    Ban Over!

I was talking golf on the main blog not realizing our dear Lib had created a new sport blog.

Good job Lib. We can alway count on you......well almost always, but thats good enough.

I posted this on the main blog and I'll repost it here since it is on topic in this place:

As far as the European golf dudes, I would have to go with Garcia. He has been consistant as he11. Of course if Rory gets in the zone he will be very difficult to beat, but I think Holmes is a good dark horse bet. He's been hot as he11 lately and could take it all.

As far as the Americans go, its hard to count Bubba and Phil out. They always seem to rise to the occasion, but Spieth would be a good bet. Dustin Johnson too.

I do believe a long driver will win, whoever it is.

I agree with you Mark ! Garcia is very consistent .... Watson and Lefty Mickelson are bound to be in the mix ... I just have a doubt about Rory on this course ... it was the major he threw away so badly I can't see him doing it this time !

Still maintain there are two excellent Aussies and some SA well worth a punt !

Bart one of my favourite racers is racing there .. He is not well liked but I love his attitude JP

Yeah I think Montoya has completed his reacclimation with the Indy cars. He Juan the last race and I think he'll win more this year. Maybe even the championship. You can tell that he has brought a little of his NASCAR experience with him. He won't hesitate to get aggressive and bump others. But then again he never hesitated to do that before he did NASCAR.

    The guy is a racer.

Well I hope the weather holds off. I've been anticipating this for a while.

He should never have left open wheel racing IMO .... Dario had it too easy for many years and Juan Pablo May just dominate it now that Dario has retired

Denver had an Indy race. That was back in the Champ car days. They had a street course in Downtown Denver in 1990 & 1991. They didn't do it for a couple of years and then came back and ran a different street course that was near the Pepsi Center in 2002through 2006.

The downtown course they used in 1990 & 1991 was a very tight street course kind of like the Juan in Long Beach. Both years they had a stock race (the equivelent of the Continental Sports Car Series today) and, a Trans Am race on Saturday and the Indy cars ran on Sunday.

I drove a brand new Mustang GT in the 1990 stock race. The only sort of big race I ever ran in. They had two classes, the big engine and small engine (Same as the GS & ST classes now). We were in the big engine class. We tore the interior out of it and put in a racing seat, roll cage and did all the safety mods required and did all the performance mods allowed. We also cheated a bit I have to admit. We did a few mods to the motor and we stripped off more weight from the car than allowed. We added 50lbs of weight to the car before the weight in and removed it before the race. No Juan caught us. LOL

I knew we couldn't win because the Mustangs didn't have as good brakes as the Chevrolet machines and the others in the race. The Ford brakes would get hot and fade much quicker than the others, but I figured we could do well in the early part of the race before the brakes went away and maybe get noticed by somejuan.

I qualifed the car 6th overall. The first five places were 2 vette's, a camaro and 2 lotus's.

When they dropped the green flag I bombed the first corner and basically knocked everyjuan else out of the way and took the lead on the first corner (One Montoya would have been proud) and I lead the first 6 laps before the brakes started going away and I ended up finishing 6th overall. The same place I started. LOL

The funny thing is that not long after that I got a letter from Roush Racing and they invited me to go down to Phoenix and test in a Mustang Trans Am car. It was a dream come true and I jumped at the oportunity. Went down there and we ran the old road course at Phoenix for 3 days (they tore up that track the next year and built the current track). It was cool as can be. Got to race with Dorsey Schroeder. The Trans Am Mustang was the fastest car I ever drove. The thing was stomp down fast. I did very well and I think they were all impressed, but nothing ever came of it.

Oh well. It was still a blast.

A local radio jock just did a phone interview with your guy, Juan Pablo. Discussing a phone-ap that will let you see the race from his car, LIVE.

I sure hope the rain holds off enough for a safe race.

You mentioned something about a South African earlier and lo and behold, look at what old Ernies* doing.

*I may have to cheer for him just on general and old fart principles.
  19. NavarreMark's Avatar
J B Holmse isn't doing so well. I thought he might be a dark horse bet because of how hot he's been lately, but he probably won't make the cut unless he makes a big turn around.

With that being said, Tiger played better than I thought he would. Part of me hopes he crashes and burns and another part of me hopes he does well because of all the crap (physical & mental) he's gone through. Not because I have any sympathy for the guy, but I do have empathy for any man who's been negatively affected by a blonde.

Dr. Kid knows what I mean.

I have to admit I felt a sadness for Woods struggling around that course .... there was a time he could have taken everyone of them apart both mentaly and physically ... He looked old for his years and tired .

Yes it was a stunning round .... he was 100 to 1 start of play and only one of two major winners in the top 6 ..... Mr Chrisma Rose being the other ...

I like Els ... one of the few who won majors when Tiger was genius . Same I didn't bet on him instead of Kaymer or Lowry ... But my other two look in great form ...

    Good Morning Cone !

Golf is a difficult one , some people see it whacking a ball into a hole and very boring ... others see the skill of swing and touch , the beauty of the greens , the horror of the rough and extremely skillful and interesting ...

I can't play because of a old shoulder injury prevents me from doing a proper follow through on the swing, but I do like to watch the very best play in the big Juans.

I can play miniture golf with the best of them though.

The Masters.org website is really nice.
I like to follow one group, it gives juan a feel for what it's like to play..... in this case "featured group #2" with Speith.
