June/July: The Beginning of the End?

At least it is for me, for the blog, that will have to be determined by others. I decided during the offseason that I was burned out on being the blog host to what is an increasingly diminished membership. No offense to the wonderful folks who remain, but having two posters in a 24 hr. period is just not worth the effort or the money. If someJuan else would like to take over the duties that would be great, and I would still like to participate, but not as the proprietor. Maybe you all can come up with a solution to our woes, and I will applaud your efforts if you should like to try.

Until that time, on with the show!
It’s early – too early for any biggies(we hope), but we might get some more flusher type systems before the big boys start forming up.

The tropical wave train will get going in earnest and the ITCZ will begin it’s northward migration.

The early season SST anomalies are providing some clues about the seasons and so far the MDR is quite chilly, but the western GOM is ready, willing, and able.

So, sit back, pop an option #2 beverage and for at least the next 6 mos……

Cone, Do not ever feel like you have to play host!

We are thankful to have somewhere to vent and horse around. It should not require so much work from you. The blog will be what it will be--a place to share.

Maybe we can volunteer to each take a month?

    Morning LF!

Whatever you all decide will be fine by me, but there is also the matter of the $$. It costs a little over $250 per year to keep the place running. I will not be involved in the decision making as to how anyJuan would like to proceed.

Of course I feel the need to play host, if I didn't come in all the time and comment there would be days when there would be very few, if any comments. Peeps need to know someJuan will be around to keep the flow going- at least a little bit.

Wow Cone, I sure hope not. I understand you're getting tired, as you've done a fantastic job moving us along. I like LFs idea for each of us taking a month or so. Most are busy, but not all of us at the same time. (For instance, I wouldn't take a month with Jazz-fest).

As for the Crown chart above, that looks like a recipe for Home-Grown. That would be fine as I could sure use the moistcha, and they are usually not that strong.

I will do whatever I can to assist, it's just a shout away.. The bunker has provided much shelter for many over time. Predomantly facilitated by the ever generous efforts of Cone! Thank you for doing what you have been doing Cone! It is appreciated.

Thanks guys, it's been a fun ride but my time as the host will come to an an end. Any type of continuation will NOT be of my doing......

If the Bunker is to continue, it will not be in any way under my watch.

Message received Cone. Who will step up, is the question...

Perhaps it will bring Dewey out of hiding. I am happy to contribute, as many are, It is just not easy for us to do so.

It may be Bunker Backup time. Just sayin,,,,,,,

    Good Morning Bunkerites!

Hosting will expire at the end of The Season™ - Nov. 30th, so we're good until then. Pretty quiet morning across the US, just a batch of T-Storms rolling across the plains......

Some chatter in TwitterVille about a new threater - but on on the Goofy so far....

GFS Ensembles indicating another risk in the tropics, aimed at Florida. ECMWF showing nothing... has the GFS become the better genesis model? Time will tell... (Play on the ECMWF and Sandy...)The GFS had Alberto.

Thanks Cone, for all of your tireless efforts over the last several months (years). Many don't know, but you are the "front man" for the band, so to speak. Others have been behind the scene, trying to keep the Bunker afloat when it starts to sink. Sometimes, those behind the scene pay the monthly hosting payment and the yearly Domain service. In any case, that is just the web site, which is nothing without content. Now Dewey set up the site which is like filling an empty house with furniture and etc. But Cone has been making it a home. If the Bunker was Cable TV, Cone would be a premium channel, a channel we have gotten for free all this time, but will soon be pulled. If you look at the blog, and his daily posts, you will realize that they take a lot of effort. So, in behalf of all of us, I hereby offer the utmost gratitude for all of your hard work and tenacity and reliability all this time! We are looking forward to another Season with you at the helm.
Last year when the site was about to go off the air, many expressed a desire to contri
bute, so in the next 6 moths, maybe we can figure out a way to be able to do that. Things are difficult without Dewey's involvement, so it will be a make shift arrangement at best. It was a difficult thing to arrange, so difficult that some of us just paid the hosting.
So, now, it is up to each of us to support, not just the site, but support Cone. He has been there for us EVERY DAY!
Not to sound hypocritical, because lord knows I have skipped out for long periods of time, when life wants all of my attention, and it happens to everyone. But it is discouraging to the host to see only a few show up in the off season or when nothing much is happening on the severe weather scene.
Participation is not mandatory, but neither is Cone's efforts.
So, maybe we could try a little harder?
I mean, you don't have to offer a brilliantly contrived thesis, just drop in and make a comment!
After Cone steps down, there will be some big shoes to fill. But anyone can start a blog here, if you need help, just ask.
I may do it myself next off season.
Unlike some sites, we don't have a "main blog." All blogs are equal to the site. What makes a blog the MAIN is the amount of those participating in it.
    So feel free to practice.

    One more time for emphasis:
    Thanks Cone! You are awesome!

Well said, 3K, but aren't you always!

So, I only got 3 gals. of weed spray out today before I shove off. Now it is raining. but it looks like I may have a 2 hour window when this drizzle passes.

I wasted a little time waiting for my Car to arrive home. My baby is BACK!!! And as good as new. I really mean it--the interior is almost ALL new. They said they put $20K into restoring it--all under a recall! Incredible.

Thanks Triple K! Very nicely worded as always and your posts have always been Juan of the high points around here. I just hope someJuan can come up with a good solution for the long term.

Great News LF! I'm so happy that the car got fixed up without you having to lose your mind fighting with them

DRATS! Drencheroo. Will it dry while I still have daylight? Or will I come back to weeds 2 ft. tall?

Thanks, Cone! I was so disenchanted with the armrests deteriorating and coming off in chunks that I was ready just to trade it even for a Camry. But, since it was my Aunt's, and it was such a well-built car, I had an attachment to it. I think I will keep it until it nickles and dimes me to death.

With the low mileage it should be good for a good long time now - I hope.

Had quite a drencheroo here as well, but it has stopped now and I'll bet the sun will be out before 6 or 7.....

I’ll pay for the site but I’m obviously not the person to host it. If we can’t add members, it’s very discouraging. My vision for the place has always been a bit more to throw it open and see what happens. Get rid of trolls quickly but let everyone in. Unless that happens we’ve faced an inevitable demise for several years. I’ve always been willing to do more on the marketing and financial front but not unless we have a common vision and the ability to carry it out...ie, opening it up.
  18. InTheCone's Avatar
    Good Morning Bunkerites!

Yep, not being able to add members is definitely an issue.

P's take on the possibility of another super soaker.......

Then after a respite we'll see if we get a little pattern reload along the east coast with the Atlantic high again....and we'll look down towards the tropics for that potential disorganized disturbance.

Yes, there's the head of the nail.

Dewey did a great job of setting up the site, I will give him that. But, we do need to open it up. I propose that we ask him first (somehow) to give someone the keys to the site that will be here at least most of the time, so we can add members and clean it up and sweep the floors and empty the trash on a regular basis.
If that doesn't work out, we have no option but to make our own. We have about 6 months to decide and have something ready.
People change and their lives change. Jeff moved away from the tropics, with a family and responsibilities and a new place, his interest has waned somewhat "Out of sight (or site) out of mind." We can expect that, but we can also expect others to become interested as well and may wish to be a part of this thing we call the Weather Bunker. And perhaps with more people, the personality of the blog may change and become more inviting for everyone.
    That's my opinion anyway.
    But I may be wrong.
    I was wrong once before.
    I thought I was wrong.

Mostly thanks to the error, and this game is a looong way from over.

Had a decent weather day today. We were near 100and 100% humidity for a couple of days. One national forecaster said “Look at Tulsa...now that’s just gross” I’m here to vouch for that.

Getting ready for NBA finals. Go Cavs. Kevin Durant, break a leg. I mean that in the best possible way.

LOL Cone, we in OK apparently have more HC’s and TS’s than New Mexico. New Mexico would just love a few tropical storms, they have all the wind and no moischa’. Wish we could control and market storms to highest bidder. Someone needs to look into that.

When the pitcher, with a name similar to a Shakira song, takes a No No into the 9th , the party was over long before.

Seems Alberto redux is about a week out. I hope everyone in FL is taking advantage of the Hurricane prep tax break!

Lots of heat and ewwwmidity around here today as well, getting pretty thick out there

All the excess water from the last super soaker should be about gone by then so bring it on

Both starters did well in that game, yours just made that Juan mistake in the first, otherwise he didn't give up any more runs. Bucs and Cards are done until August.
