    .....sorry Landfall, I haven't a clue.....

Never use them anymore, but a tag is something that is searchable. I'm always searching for beer. So if I type "beer" in the search box, all blogs that have beer in it will pop up.

    Including this one now. DAMMIT.

Good Night Everybody....Stay safe! Be safe!!

    HURRICANE SANDY DISCUSSION NUMBER 19
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL182012
    1100 PM EDT FRI OCT 26 2012

SANDY IS SHOWING CHARACTERISTICS OF A HYBRID CYCLONE THIS EVENING.
OVERALL...THE SYSTEM LOOKS LIKE A LARGE OCCLUDED FRONTAL LOW.
HOWEVER...SURFACE OBSERVATIONS DO NOT SHOW STRONG TEMPERATURE
GRADIENTS...AND CENTRAL CONVECTION IS OCCURRING IN BANDS TO THE
NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER. IN ADDITION...AMSU DATA FROM NEAR 2000
UTC INDICATED THAT THE SYSTEM STILL HAD A DEEP WARM CORE.
DROPSONDES AND SFMR DATA FROM A NOAA HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT
SHOWED A LARGE AREA OF 60 KT WINDS TO THE WEST AND NORTHWEST OF THE
CENTER...AND BASED ON THIS AND THE POSSIBILITY THAT STRONGER WINDS
WERE NOT SAMPLED...THE INITIAL INTENSITY REMAINS 65 KT. AN
INTERESTING NOTE IS THAT THE DROPSONDE DATA INDICATES THAT THE
STRONGEST WINDS IN THE CONVECTION AT FLIGHT-LEVEL ARE SIGNIFICANTLY
LESS THAN THOSE NEAR THE SURFACE.

THE CENTER HAS BEEN WOBBLING DURING THE EVENING...WITH THE INITIAL
MOTION A SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN 010/6. THERE IS NO CHANGE TO THE TRACK
FORECAST REASONING FROM THE PREVIOUS ADVISORY. A DEEP-LAYER TROUGH
MOVING INTO THE EASTERN UNITED STATES SHOULD CAUSE SANDY TO TURN
NORTHEASTWARD WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED...AND THIS MOTION
SHOULD PERSIST FOR 48 HR OR SO. AFTER THAT...A NEGATIVELY-TILTED
SHORTWAVE TROUGH NEAR THE U.S. EAST COAST AND A RIDGE OVER EXTREME
EASTERN CANADA SHOULD CAUSE SANDY TO TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST AND
WEST-NORTHWEST...TOWARD AND OVER THE U.S. COAST. THE TRACK
GUIDANCE ENVELOPE SHIFTED A LITTLE TO THE EAST DURING THE FIRST 48
HR...AND THE FORECAST IS NUDGED IN THAT DIRECTION. HOWEVER...THERE
WAS LITTLE CHANGE AFTER THAT TIME...AND THE LANDFALL AREA AND TIME
IS CHANGED LITTLE FROM THAT OF THE PREVIOUS FORECAST.

SANDY IS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING ABOUT 50 KT OF VERTICAL WIND SHEAR
WHICH IS DISRUPTING THE CONVECTIVE STRUCTURE. HOWEVER...VERY
STRONG UPPER-LEVEL DIVERGENCE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROUGH SOUTHWEST OF
THE HURRICANE IS LIKELY SUSTAINING THE CYCLONE. WHILE THESE
CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TO CONTINUE...IT IS LIKELY THAT SANDY WILL
CONTINUE TO SLOWLY WEAKEN THROUGH 36 HR. SUBSEQUENTLY...THE
DYNAMICAL MODELS FORECAST THAT INTERACTION WITH THE U. S. SHORTWAVE
TROUGH WILL CAUSE SANDY TO RE-INTENSIFY PRIMARILY DUE TO
BAROCLININC ENERGY PROCESSES. THE INTENSITY FORECAST SHOWS SANDY
REGAINING HURRICANE STRENGTH IN 48-72 HR. HOWEVER...THE CYCLONE
WILL BE UNDERGOING EXTRATROPICAL TRANSITION AS THIS HAPPENS...AND
WHEN THIS PROCESS WILL BE COMPLETE IS UNCERTAIN. REGARDLESS OF THE
EXACT STRUCTURE AT LANDFALL...SANDY IS EXPECTED TO BE A LARGE AND
POWERFUL CYCLONE WITH SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS EXTENDING WELL AWAY FROM
    THE LOCATION OF THE CENTER.

    FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS

    INIT 27/0300Z 27.7N 77.1W 65 KT 75 MPH

I am starting to get the feeling I will be loading this blog up with some damage photos.... that is when I have power back.

The hysteria looks like it will be proven correct. The storm is no joke and is intensifying and will do so until landfall. Models tightly clustered on NJ.

This is not Irene. Not a decaying tropical cyclone overhyped and incorrectly forecast. This is a developing winter gale that is going to continue to intensify.

Really, at this point, sounding the alarms is the least they can do. It looks like the real deal this morning.

    Mornin' All!

P: Yeah, I started this blog to poke fun a TWC and the hype, the "carnage" we experienced here, and NOT clog up the more serious blogs. After reading your posts, it became apparent that things were gonna turn nasty up north! Hang on, looks like it's gonna be wild ride! Sad to say, it already was MUCH rougher in the Bahama's than it was here.

SPATHY! Tell me more!!! I see some root-like things poking out from under the detached "head." (I have close-ups if you need them.) Do I plant the whole head, or wait for the stump to sprout? I saved some pups, and plan to get them started. Wouldn't be such a big deal, but this is the last surviving Queen from my Grandma's house--that my Dad started for me. He passed away in 2006--so it has sentimental value.

Otherwise, everyone have fun on this blog while you can. I will start my palm frond count today for my ARS to give you my official rating of the Sandy event in SE Fla.!

The Carnage from last nights 20mph wind gust...................it is possible that this was actually carnage from Ceana and our puppies............possibly!

..............but the clippings off the sycamore were in a pile........

Hmmmmmm, yes, suspicious indeed! Hard to tell who or what the culprits were!

It's all fun n games till P shows up.

That's gotta be one of the best one-liners I've ever read.

YAY! StAug got to the beach! Glad to see there were no shells, otherwise I'da been all sad. And Scoos- Loved the aftermath. Hey Landfall? Ya'll DID get some wind, eh?

Yeah, I think P will be our biggest concern.

Just returned from my safari--er, yard damage survey. Smells good out there due to all the camphor leaves that were blown off the tree.

Many of my plants look like they have BAD comb-overs. They are leaning from north to south. Some even got wind-burned and the leaves are shriveling.

Biggest casualty was my "sunflower" bush. It was a maintenance nightmare anyway, so good riddance. When I post the pics of the trash piles, you'll see it in there. Too bad, it was blooming, but the flowers were like 20 feet up in the air.

As for the ARS--I say that Sandy's wind damage was equal to or greater than that of the Spawn of Isaac.

Ah, red sky at night, sailor's delight. Would have been a great picture if I had my camera along.

Back to work tomorrow--not done yet.

Thoughts and prayers to those north of us!

So, we got our first garbage pail casualty around 5AM.
We have piles of leaves in the center of intersections and alongside houses due to leaf tornadoes as we call them.

My cat is going BAT **** CRAZY this morning. I mean way out of character. Just tearing around and extremely vocal...even for her.

Not a peep from nature outside. Birds were crazy for a couple of days in a way we've rarely seen - and then nothing all day yesterday.

Late last night all these odd moths showed up and were darting around in a chaotic fashion.

Well, that's it so far for the hysteria. For the most part people here are prepared but saying nothing is coming, it never comes, etc. Well...nature's got news for em: The weathermen are getting this one right.

I am sure we will see increasing nervousness today as things ramp up - and hysteria tomorrow morning as its rough out there and everyone realizes we got 12 hours until it peaks.

Seems I missed the gist of the blog entry as I am prone to do. Damn my honest straight shooting personna. Always gets my dumb ass in trouble.

Well, since I already screwed up, no sense in trying to cover my tracks and back out gracefully. I'd probably just knock something over anyway.

Don't despair, I'm sure a long power outage is on it's way in about a day.
